Zero-hours work takes a huge physical and mental toll .”

HELP US NAME AND SHAME
A shocking number of businesses, Government departments, schools, healthcare institutions and other famous (and not-so famous) employers unilaterally impose zero hours contracts on large numbers of people, against their will. The workers may accede to signing these contracts, but the alternative is to be without work. Some employers may employ zero hours workers directly. However, others often legally hide behind an employment agency or contractor whom they pay. In turn, the agency or contractor typically employs cleaners and others who perform the services required by the client employer on zero hours contracts.
Some people within businesses and organisations employing people (directly or indirectly) on a zero hours contract are ignorant to the fact that they employ people in such an immoral way. Other people within businesses or organisations clearly try and hide the fact or ignore it.
When this shameful practice is publicly exposed, things may start to change and employers may then decide to do what's right. To help us name, shame and change what's perceived as acceptable business practice by some employers, please let us know if your employer engages workers directly, or indirectly, on a zero hours contract. We will soon publish a list and highlight this to the media with regular updates.
